Ceart Irish Grammar Checker
A séimhiú? An urú? Help!
Ceart, the Irish grammar checking tool (and its sister Irish spell checker), has changed the way I approach writing a document in Irish. And it can help you the same way. Write more confidently in Irish — don’t overly worry about getting the séimhiú or urú correct or other similar spelling mistakes. Now you can make your best attempt, and run your entire piece of text through Ceart to help you spot those tricky grammatical constructs.
For your workflow, you should write your Irish document or essay in a word processor as usual. Now, paste the text into Ceart’s main window, and run the grammar check. Ceart will then give you tips on any suspicious grammatical formations you may have used.

How Ceart Irish Grammar Checker Helped Me
By now you must be wondering how to get a hold of this software tool for yourself. But first, have a look through some screenshots I took of my own Irish writing in Ceart.
- Ceart’s interface can be used in either English or Irish. I chose it to be in Irish.
- Ceart cuts to the chase. It makes the process simple, even with its powerful Irish grammar correcting engine.
I pasted in a recent blog post that I had written without Ceart’s help. Ceart makes the job as simple as possible — as it should be!
First, I pasted in my blog post to the main Ceart window:
There must be a few errors in there, as I’m not a strong Irish writer. To start Ceart’s powerful grammar checking, I click “Seiceáil/Check”:
As you can see above, Ceart has found the first error. I thought it should read “chuig an dTeach Bán”, but in its tip it tell me that there’s no need for an urú or séimhiú.
Let’s look if there’s any more errors found:
As you can see above, Ceart has told me that “Polannaise” isn’t really a word. Now I can check my dictionary and see that I should have instead written “Polainnise”.
After that, I correct a few more errors that the grammar checker informed me about. The result, the document has been corrected, and I’m happy and relieved!
