Im getting a tattoo on the out facing side of my forearm and i want something with meaning. I am the only member of my entire family born in New Zealand (family is from Hawick and Galashiels. Amos and middlemass) and i want a tattoo with real meaning. I want this phrase 'Never Conquered' for obvious historical reasons. Can anyone translate 'Never Conquered' for me?

Cheers Very Happy

Hi, Scott! My attempt is Gan chloí, meaning "without defeat", maybe this can helps you, but wait for more inputs, definitely, I'm a beginner.

It's never a good idea to be in a rush when it comes to tattoos. None of our translations are guaranteed correct, it's only through discussion and bandy about ideas on the forum that we are sure that 1) It's correct 2) It's idiomatically phrased.

So, if you're in a rush I'd implore you to maybe get something else done, or at least don't get anything permanent done until a good few people give it the ok

My attempt:
Ní bhfuair aon duine bua ormsa/orainne riamh
No one got victory on me/us ever

There's no verb in Irish that has the direct meaning of conquer (that I know of), so the sentence will be long and clumsy unless you want to say "without defeat" or something. Like above. Wait for more

I would suggest you tweak it a little and go for something that will have the same punch in Irish - particularly if it's for a tatoo.

The Irish for "Unconquerable" would be : "Dochloíte"

Oops! We assumed you wanted Irish (since this is the Irish Gaelic Translation forum...) Wink

Not to worry. We have a few Scottish speakers around from time to time; I've flagged this message "SG:" so they'll find it.
