Imígí faoi shíocháin chun grá agus seirbhís a thabhairt don Tiarna
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Imígí is the plural order form that you would say to a congregation.
If you wanted to say this to one person only, then say Imigh... _________________ http://web.me.com/somhairle |

Well, Imigh is to depart, or leave, and is more apt for this translation than simply Téigh. I think. _________________ http://web.me.com/somhairle |

This is definitely what's used in the EnahÉ order of service, and I'm guessing it's what's used in the Roman Catholic mass as well, since they really do tend to parallel one another (at least in English...can't say I've ever actually attended an Anglican mass in Irish).

That Phrase doesnt appear in the Irish Mass I think...(it doesnt in the Mass Sheet I have from Dingle) although it is used routinely in this part of the world. I accept Somhairles distiction on the Imigh vs téim differentiation though. Somehow it just rings Better.
In the Old Latin Mass we said Ite Missa est (Yiz can miss the rest) whereupon the back of the Church would empty like a herd of Turtles _________________ =================

If you look here right at the very last line it gives Imígí faoi shíocháin and that's from a Catholic Mass. As far as Eaglais na hÉireann is concerned, I've not got any order of service sheets except Leabhar na hUrnaí Cointinne but the book is vast and has lots of different orders of service in it and I couldn't find the same "Go in peace..." yet I know that it is definitely said (in English) at the end of the service. I've been to a few Eaglais na hÉireann services in Irish but can't remember what was said _________________ http://web.me.com/somhairle |
