Hi can anyone help me translate my name into Irish please. I want my name in Irish on my passport. Its Leona Reid. Im not sure there is a translation for Leona because its not an English name but if you could help it would be great thanks! |

There isn't one for "Leona," I'm afraid. "Leona" isn't an Irish name, so it doesn't have an Irish form (pretty name, though!).
Hoganstand does give "Ó Maoildeirg" for "Reid/Reed" (I'm not quite sure where that comes from, though...they certainly don't sound alike!). You might have to do some research to verify that, as I believe that "Reid" can also be German, in which case the Irish name wouldn't be valid. If you do use the Irish form, it would be "Ni Mhaoildeirg" if it's a maiden name and "Uí Mhaoildeirg" if it's a married name.
I'm assuming you're an Irish national, yes? (to the best of my knowledge you have to be to use an Irish name on your passport, unless it's also you given name or a legal change) If so, I would think there would be someway to verify the surname locally.
