What a fun Forum to have found today on St. Patrick's Day!

My wife needs to have 3 short phrases translated into good Irish Gaelic:

1) "Fireman"

2) "So that others may live"

3) " Brotherhood above all"

These will apparently be incorporated into a friend's Tattoo design.

And while I'm here, I'm inviting everyone to partake of an Irish party music video I produced, featuring my performance of "A rovin" and some fabulous photos of Ireland:

Brotherhood above all: Bráithreachas thar gach uile ní

You may want to do a forum search for "so that others may live." It's a tricky one, but I know it's one we've done here before. My inclination would be to go for something like:

Ar son shaolta na ndaoine eile: For [the sake of] other people's lives

Wait for more.

How excellent, Redwolf--Wow, you were fast! This is just great, and I'll do as you say, and as it says at the top of the Forum - I'll wait to see if there are more ideas before calling this "good." I understand the 3rd phrase is a bit tricky.

I'd say:

Sa gcaoi go mairfidh chuile dhuine eile

Wait for more opinions

Benjamin, I've been asked if I can find out what the literal English equivalent of your phrase is. Red Wolf explained that her translation changed the English phrase to "For [the sake of] other people's lives," which seems a very good variation. We're hoping to know how your Gaelic phrase translates back into English. Thank you.

I'd change Benjamin's to:

Sa gcaoi go mairfidh daoine eile "So that other people will live"
