That until the 1800's and the rise of irish nationalism St Patrick was always seen and associated with the colour BLUE !!

Father Christmas however always wore green santa suits until coca cola hijacked him and turned him red

St. Patrick's official color is still blue.

Yeah, I read that too. I think the Presidents offical colour is St. Patrick Blue, that's why you see the Gold Harp on blue rather than green.
