im trying to find out the correct way to write this saying in Gaelic: "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade".
This is what I could figure out myself but I need to know how to make it grammatically correct: "An saol sin tu liomoidi, tu marc liomanaidi".

Nuair a thugann an saol líomóidí duit, déanann tú líomanáid.

You can't translate into another language with a dictionary. Irish syntax is completely different to English.

"Marc" means 'make' in the sense of a brand model, e.g. 'make' of car - not the verb make.

does 'lemons' have some slang meaning that I'm not familair with?

A friend of mine is drawing a picture of a tree with celtic knots and designs, and he's trying to write that saying in Gaelic. I started learning Irish recently and I'm still an early beginner. But you're right, I did use a dictionary LOL. Thank you for the translation. Also, I wasn't using slang for "lemon".

No hidden meaning, a antóin. Maybe it's an Americanism. It's usually phrased as an imperative: "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade", meaning that when something bad/sour happens, you should turn it into something good/sweet.

From Random House Webster's:

lemon 4. Informal. a person or thing that proves to be defective, imperfect, or unsatisfactory; dud: His car turned out to be a lemon.

The expression basically means "make the best of what you've got" and I was also thinking the imperative works better, as Kevin has pointed out.
