MY question is...Iam learning pieces of 18 languages through several sources but mainly through Radio Lingua. They have a one minute series with Gaelic, and another with Irish, and they are completely different. Could someone let me know if the difference is areas of the country or whatever. Iam from Canada and our Country is bilingual English/French. Thanks in advance for any info. I use another Tranlator site for most languages, and they have Irish but no mention of Gaelic...Charles

Usually, when the word "Gaelic" is used by itself like that, it refers to Scottish Gaelic. When speaking of the language spoken in Ireland, we usually say "Irish" or sometimes "Irish Gaelic."

The two languages are related (Scottish Gaelic broke off from Middle Irish), but are different enough to be considered separate languages (think Spanish and Portuguese).

BTW, please don't use any automated "translator" to translate Irish. They produce absolute gibberish.
