I would go with this. I really have issues with taking native Irish names and making them into mere "translations" for names from other cultures. There's an accepted Irish form for "Benjamin" (even if it's not widely used), and if a name "translation" is what's wanted, that's what he should go with. Benjamins who choose to adopt a different Irish name should be clear that it is NOT an Irish form of their name, but just a name that perhaps sounds a little like it, and that they've chosen to use it because they didn't like the actual Irish form.
