I recently vacationed in Ireland during the sunny weeks in September :D and fell in love with the country. It's breathtaking!

I was wondering if someone could translate the word "guard" into Irish, like the command to a dog to stand watch over precious property.

Also, I read in another thread that the Scotts speak gaelic, as well. Is it basically the same language? Would Irish and Scottish understand each other?

To answer your last question first: Irish and Scottish Gaelic are closely related, but they are different languages (kind of like Spanish and Portuguese).

For "guard" as an imperative verb, I'd lean toward "coimeád." Wait for more input on that, though.
