Please be careful who you listen to/trust on this board.

A few weeks ago I asked for a simple translations for my fiance's wedding ring. I got what seemed to be a very helpful translation but someone [my mean fiance - see bottom of thread] has now reavealed to me that translated a different, quote crude phrase. Unfortunately my trust was misdirected and I should not have listened to what he said. Now those words are in the inside of a wedding band I am to presnt to my husband in less than two weeks. It makes me want to cry.

So please, learn from my mistake and don't take everything you hear on here at face value.

No one misled me but my fiance who anonymously sent me an email from the boards after trying to find out what the engraving meant. He thought it would be funny to tease me; I didn't see the humor until much, much later . The translation in his ring is fine; it is beautiful (thank you, Oisin, for your help!) I am sorry for my mistake in immediately lashing out here. So the moral of the story is once again - be careful who you trust!!

I think Everyone of here on this Board would stand over an Oisín translation

I suggest you look to the person who told you it was wrong!

Also, you might want to tell us what you were 'told' the translation said.

The pesrson who said that transaltion was 'crude' paid all of us on this site a huge insult.


And by repeating the words tonight -without slight acceptance that your 'informant' might be wrong you have redoubled that insult.

Oisín(in particular) and the site are owed a serious apology.

I hope you have the courage to deliver it.

What we are saying is that we understand that an inscription on a wedding ring is very important to you...ie weddings are emotional times, but at the same time it's unfair to Oisín to post what you did without at least stating what you have been told the translation said. Just as we state at the top of this forum it's good to get more than one opinion for wedding rings, etc...it's also common curtesy if you feel something wasn't right to state why. The people on this forum do so on a voluntary basis and the only benefit they get is the 'thank yous' from people requesting translations. To see something like this can be disheartening to say the least.

I do hope you come back and apologize to Oisín for jumping to conclusions.

all jokes aside, the first translation Oisín gave was straight from an Irish Bible

I can't judge colloquialisms, but I think the suggestion to have it checked by the folks at www.daltai.com is a good one
