how about my 2 favourites:
Nuair a bhíonn an t-ól istigh, bíonn an chiall amuigh
When the drink is in, the sense is out.

oh! well Irish proverbs are mainly "tongue in cheek conservative"
but I'm sure some of the others have got something up their sleeves

It's a good question, looking thru me books I came up with nothing as gritty as I or indeed crutches55 would like..
Anyone got any ideas?

There are many good reasons for drinking,
One has just entered my head-
If a man doesn't drink when he's living,
How the hell can he drink when he's dead?

How 'bout something along the lines of, "Ná beir muinín choíche as fear a choinneáil gloine lán aige." Never trust a man keeping a full glass.
I'm not sure of my idiom nor grammar.
