Well, it is on certain words:

Patris = paht-ree

etc.

Was your Latin teacher French? I learned that every letter it always pronounced.

I had Latin for four years in college, and I can still remember odd chunks of the Aeneid:

Arma virumque cano Troiae qui primus ob oris
Italiam fato profugus Lavinaque venit
litora multum ille et terris iactatus et alto
vi superum, saevae memorem Iunonis ob iram,
multa quoque et bello passus dum conderet urbem
inferretque deos Latio -- genus unde Latinum
Albanique patres atque altae moenia Romae...
