Yes that is a good translation by Oisín- although I think the more common spelling og is Amárach

We talk from tome to time about direct word for word translations - and by and large IU am an advocate.

Thi construction is pretty difficalt in Irish though -and using a semi colon kinda breaks the magic?


I wonder could we ask Damien if in this instance to say - a more simple

Today I am a man, tomorrow ( i will be) a King

or is REALLY REALLY important to get the MADE in there.

Maybe:

Is inniu atá mé i m'fhear, amárach a bheidh mé i mo rí

Today I have become a man, tomorrow I will become a king?

I was thinking about

I mo fhear inniu, i mo Rí amárach

or

Im' fhear inniu, im' Rí amárach

Heute Deutschland, morgen die Welt!

I think you need the "tá mé...." in there for that to make sense:

Your right the more important emphasis of the sentence is on the becoming of a man.

Then I guess you have to go with my first offering:

Is inniu a dhéantar fear díom; amárach, Rí.

lit. Today one makes a man from me; tomorrow, a King[/b]
