Hello this is the first time I've been here, but for one that loves our history and culture and mythology I am ashamed to say that I can't speak a lick of our language. I would love to learn, but I fear that it will be a constant strugle as 3 years of French and 4 years of Spanish failed to teach me more than I could learn from watching Cheech and Chong. And I mean that seriously, I didn't pick up a bit of the French (not that I mind that one bit).
Well now on to my real issue. I am going to be bringing home a Mastiff this weekend and I would like to come up with a good name for him. He is a brindle (black and brown swirls basicly) so his call name will be Shadow. I am registering him with the AKC as a show dog and would like his registered name to be more Celtic/Irish. Here are some thoughts, but please let me know if it can be translated and how one would say the translation. I may even use the Irish word for shadow if I could figure out how to say it.
Thanks to all that reply. And sorry for the long post. Unfortunatly I have been given the gift of Blarney (sp?)

Shadow = Scáth
/scaw/

I guess it would help if I added the possible names. Sorry.
Shadow of Tuatha Dé Danann
Shadows of the Fenians
Cuchulainn's Shadow
A Shadow of Dagda Mor
Cernunnos' Shadow
And am I correct in reading that Scáth is pronounced scaw?
Thanks!

yes, because Irish "th" is pronounced "h" so it's silent in this case...
I'll work on those translations!

my tuppence on the name - do use the Irish pronunciation for Shadow. I toyed briefly with the thought of naming my pup Shadow (because he sticks to me closer than my actual shadow!), but decided against it because in the training stages when I would need to say the word "shadow" with any amount of force, the second syllable would sound very much like the word "No", which of course, is used extensively in the early training stages, and I was afraid the poor little guy would start to think that his name was "NO!"
