Hello everyone!

I have an old irish proverb, and i was wondering if anyone out there knows irish gaelic well enough to translate it from english to irish gaelic for me? The proverb is used at Wakes and Funerals, it goes as followed,

(My you reach heaven an hour before the devil knows your dead!)

I would be very thankful to anyone who could translate it into irish gaelic for me or let me know where i could go or who i could talk to to get it translated! Thank You!

Hi Caly,

I was convinced I'd find a translation for this on Google, no luck though..
It's a bit tricky for me to take on but I'm sure someone here will answer ..

Go n-éirí leat (all the best)
Sam

Go raibh tú í Neamh, leathúair os comhair a bhfuil a fhíos ag an diabhal atá tú bás.

(May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead)

Go raibh tú leathuair ar Neamh sula mbíonn a fhios ag an diabhal go bhfuil tú marbh.

We say "ar Neamh" rather than "i Neamh".

Also "os comhair" for before as in "in front of".

Ailill has the right of it.

Go raibh tú leathuair ar Neamh sula mbíonn a fhios ag an Diabhal go bhfuil tú marbh.
