Don't be so hard on yerself there Tom. Most wars (okay, if not all) are really religion based. Man's insistence on cheating mortality. It's rediculous.

I know. It's called "cognitive dissonance!" :D

I've always been a Napoleonic buff. There's just something about the aura and mystic of the man and his era that really is missing today. How many leaders today can inspire the kind of loyalty and devotion someone like Napoleon could?

And there's a difference between studying and enjoying something that happened in the past and advocating something as present-day national policy.

When Napoleon came to power, France and its Revolution were under attack from the British, the Prussians, and the Austrians. The first wars of the Napoleonic period were both in the interest of self-defense. Yes, they did end up conquering Italy and Belgium and most of Germany--but those territories (or at least their former rulers) posed a direct and imminent threat to French national sovereignty. Yeah, the Russian thing was a mistake, but what are you gonna do? :D

When I asked for the translation, it was supposed to mean that SOMETIMES there can be no peace without war.

Not to wax philosophy here, but why do people cling to the idea that true peace can only be achieved without war? The United States got its freedom and its own peace through war. We've been comfortable for a while because we vehemently defend ourselves when someone threatens that peace. Everyone wants peace. If another country forces the United States to act militarily, it is not our fault.

I wonder how many times George W. Bush sat down with Saddam Hussein and talked about their differences before the war.

Not pointing fingers, or trying to get the post locked btw.
