But the spelling seems so, I don't know, American. Is there another way to spell this? Thanks.

The original name of Leenane was
Líonán Cinn Mhara, meaning "the little (tide) filling (place) at the head of the sea". But as you see, the Irish spellings aren't as straightforward to pronounce. the "Leenane" part in Irish (líonán) would be pronounced rather /lee-nawn/ I got my info on this site, BTW: http://www.leenane-connemara.com/main.htm Is é Christian Stoehr mo chroí

Nope, no nned for An. Why? because the full name is Lionán Cinn Mhara "the little filling at the head of the sea".
So Líonán is fine. "Tá an saol mór lán den fhilíocht ag an té dar dual a thuigbheáil agus ní thráfaidh an tobar go deo na ndeor."
