We would like to give our daughter the middle name Leenane, as that is where she was conceived. ;D But the spelling seems so, I don't know, American. Is there another way to spell this? Thanks.

:) Jessie

The original name of Leenane was
Líonán Cinn Mhara, meaning "the little (tide) filling (place) at the head of the sea".

But as you see, the Irish spellings aren't as straightforward to pronounce.

the "Leenane" part in Irish (líonán) would be pronounced rather /lee-nawn/

I got my info on this site, BTW: http://www.leenane-connemara.com/main.htm

Thank you! I like Lionan better than Leenane.

Just two things

1. It's An Líonán (a lot of place names "as gaeilge" start with an - the, as in Dingle=An Daingean)

2. @Jessie

Don't forget the fadas

Nope, no nned for An. Why? because the full name is Lionán Cinn Mhara "the little filling at the head of the sea".

So Líonán is fine.
