Who is your favourite irish singer or band?
Is brea liom an Wolfetones. They are very very good. Also the Dubliners are good.

Too many to mention them in the correct order but I like Cruachan, Altan, and Horslips these days.

I also listen to some sean-nós stuff like Nan Tom Teaimín and Aoife Ní Fhearraigh but that's not everyone's cupán tae.

I'm still learning bout Irish trad music, so this list could look very different in a few months...

Yeah Pogues are wicked as well...-one of the better projects of Elvis Costello, I might add ;D (He dug 'em up and produced Rum, Sodomy and the Lash)

Tá dúil mhór agam i ceol traidisiúnta ach is fearr liom ceol tionsclaíochta. "Afrocelt Soundsystem" sé ceart go leor. :-)

A Amadán,

as you can see, most people here listen to nice Irish music, not of the anti-English kind.

Wolfe Tones are the most popular Irish band in England, last time I heard (Irish folk music that is, so after U2). Their songs aren't anti English in the least, they're just remakes of the rebel songs of old like Kevin Barry and A Nation Once Again. Is it being anti English to immortalize our heroes who fought for our freedom in song? It's no different than singing of the heroes in world war two.

Also like pogues and dubliners, but for folk songs wolfe tones are my favourites.
I am Ireland,
I am older than the Old Woman of Bearra,
Great is my glory,
I who gave birth to Cuchulain the brave,
Great is my shame,
My own family
Have sold their mother.
I am Ireland,
I am lonelier than the Old Woman of Bearra.

-Padraig Pearse.
