Can anyone recommend a good recording of Amhrán na bhFiann? By "good" I mean sung by someone with a reasonable grasp of Irish pronunciation -- someone who doesn't put a broad "s" in "báis," pronounce both "f"s in "fhágfar," etc.
Clear diction would be a plus, but not strictly necessary -- I can learn the words just as well from print. Right now I'm just trying to find a recording I can listen to and sing along with that won't drive me up the wall!
Aon mholadh agaibh?

Before you clarified your definition of "good" I was about to say that was impossible, given the dire music. It's strange really given that that there are so many good Irish airs that could have been chosen.
Then again, perhaps not. National anthems are almost always atrocious. The only exceptions I've ever come across are "La Marseillaise" and the old Russian Czarist anthem, both of which feature in Tchaikovsy's 1812 overture.

The national anthem doesnt have to be a musical masterpeice, it is designed to be inspirational and tell a relevant tale of the country. Although a bit controversial i think Amhrán na bhFiann is a great national anthem and story

So what song would you prefer, a Sheáin?

If a good tune were selected it would easy to have lyrics written. I haven't given any real though to it but, off the top of my head, I think "Róisín Dubh", "Sliabh na mBan" or "Rosc Catha na Mumhan" would all be vast improvements over the present effort.

Ah well, it could be worse...you could have ours! At least your anthem is singable by ordinary mortals

I think we should change our anthem to Hands up for Detroit by Fedde le Grande.
