First time here, I make custom arrows and would like to add an phrase in Irish ( to honor my ancestors) along the arrow shaft; such as " fly true," fly to the mark," or something in that vein. The only" fly" in the Irish dictionary I have refers to the little beast which inhabits the barnyard and houses when the door is left open too long. Can someone offer a translation or recommend
an alternative?
In all the Irish history books I have I can find no reference to any tradition of Irish archery. It had to exist at one time, can anyone recommend any line of "on line,"research that may be available?

Sorry that the online dictionaries haven't proven as useful, here's one I use a lot:

As for Irish Archery traditions...have you tried just searching (Google) on Celtic Archery in the hope that they have a link page or more info?

How about:

Eitil go croí
Fly to the heart (centre)

Arrow in Irish is 'Saghad' from the Latin root as Sagittarius...

Saighdiúr is soldier (archer).

It's a job that's never started that takes the longest to finish.
