hi, i could use some help with a translation/pronunciation, and perhaps some suggestions as well. i'm searching for a good way to say goodbye to a very dear friend of mine, in a letter i'll be writing shortly. we probably won't see each other for a few years, but i want to somehow get across that it won't be that long after all. i've kind of settled on "Farewell, but not for too long, love of my heart," possibly substituting "love of my heart" with "care of/friend to my heart". so, if anyone could translate those for me, and provide a pronunciation guide, i would be much obliged. also, if you've got anything you feel would be more appropriate, or something that would translate better, feel free to suggest it, though i would like something in there about the brevity of our separation. many thanks. Do wait for additional comments and corrections to this humble attempt:
Perhaps..... Slán go fóill, grá mo chroí. Go dté tú slán. (Goodbye for now, love of my heart. May you go safely) slahn guh foyle, graw muh kree. Guh dgeh to slahn Ní shcar muid go deo. (We will not be apart forever) knee har mwid guh joe Chífidh mé tú arís gan mhoill (I'll see you again soon) chif-feh meh to a-rees ghan wuh-eel Tá mé ag foghlaim i gcónaí. With translations, it is best to wait for someone more adept than I to confirm.

Just one point, I think grammatically it's better to say:
Ní bheimid scarta go deo We will not be seperated ever "Tá an saol mór lán den fhilíocht ag an té dar dual a thuigbheáil agus ní thráfaidh an tobar go deo na ndeor."

Thanks, Ailill!
I wasn't real comfortable with the grammar on that one, but was at a loss as to how to fix it. Tá mé ag foghlaim i gcónaí. With translations, it is best to wait for someone more adept than I to confirm.
