I had a friend who only knows the basics of Gaelic, and i'm not sure if she translated this blessing from english correctly. Could someone check it for me?
She translated the english to this:
Duit, doimhne sidh an sruth
Duit, doimhne sidh an gaoth
Duit, doimhne sidh an bith talamh
Duit, doimhne sidh dealrach reultan
Duit, doimhne sidh oidhche
Gealach agus reultan taom amlochran leigheas oirbh,
Duit, doimhne sidhan deathan.
Translated, it's supposed to be:
Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
...the quiet earth...the shining stars...the gentle night
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you,
Deep peace of the gods to you.
As i said, i'm not sure if she got the grammatical structure right (she tends to just translate using the foriegn vocabulary, but the english structure) I'd hate to put this on a wedding present and have it inadvertantly say something obscene! I know it's a long passage, but some advice would be enormously appreciated! Thanks!
