Are you a firefighter? I am in the Baltimore City F.D. I can help you with some things. Dublin is called Baille Atha Cliath in Irish. It means Town of the Hurdle Ford. You already know Dia Dhuit. As a response you can say Dia Miure Dhuit, conas tá tú. Hello, how are you. As a response to that you could say, Tá mé go maith, I am fine. Cá bhfaigheann tú an traein go Baile Atha Cliath? Where do you get the train to Dublin? Cá bhuil an leithras? Where is the toilet? Or, if you are a firefighter, you'll need this, Tabhair dom dhá phionta leanna le do thiol!! Give me two pints of beer, please. Even if you're going by yourself, you still have two hands!! Get yourself a good English/Irish-Irish/English phrasebook.

Jsmith13,
What dialect do you study? Just trying to understand the differences.

I believe it is North Connacht. Most of my translations come from either memory or my FGB. I also have a few other dictionaries I use.

The natives of Dublin are always delighted to teach tourists a few basic phrases. If you want to know what Irish sounds like, have a listen to it here: http://www.rnag.ie.
Try to fit in a visit to Newgrange. You'll see what I mean when you get there.
