Tá mé ag foghlaim i gcónaí. With translations, it is best to wait for someone more adept than I to confirm.

Jsmith13,

You and your reputation! LOL! I think it's awesome that your girlfriend supports you efforts to learn Irish. Maybe one day she'll even want to learn it...if nothing else so she'll know what the heck you're saying to her.

Slán,

Patrice

She spoke fluent German as a kid. She even used to talk in her sleep in German. It drove her parents nuts!! I'm always pestering her to speak German but, like alot of people, she hasn't used it in years so she doesn't remember any of it. Well, a small part of it. I'm a real history buff also, and she hates history!! But, she went with me and sat through 3 hours of Gods and Generals and didn't even fall asleep!! She's cool that way. Every once in a while she'll even sprachen to me in the forgotten language, what she remembers of it. The funny ones are my two daughters who are 11 and 9. They soak up Irish and German like sponges. When Abby, the 9 y.o was in pre kindergarten, she used to say to her teacher, who was Spanish, "Duh hoit! Conas tá tú" and her teacher was fairly impressed!!

Try this one to jog her memory:

Bringst du mir ein Bier, meine Zuckerpuppe?
Bringst doo meer eyn beer mey-ne tzoo-ker-puh-pe

Would you get me a beer, baby doll?

THAT would be a case of ROTFLMAO...or she'll slap ya!

Sláinte!

LOL Lynn, that ranks right up there with 'make me a sandwich, woman.' That's definitely worth a good laugh when I hear that!
