JSmith13 wrote:The cool thing is that my great, great uncle was Thomas Dunn, an Irishman from Cork. I guess I could put my story to paper, but I don't know of any famous authors.............

Me either, darn it! Anyone can write their memoirs if he feels strongly enough about them.

Hey, I have plans to write about a firefighter in the near future. Guess I know who I can ask questions of. <grin>

Pól posted a link to the Brehon Laws once, but of course I can't find it in my pages of "organized" notes iv'e jotted down from various helpful people on this site!!!

Loved your intro Deb!!

Jsmith13...coincidence....my mate is an ex-volunteer firefighter (we live out of district now) and we have had a Harley for 7 years now and when he could no longer be on FD he too grew beard back!! I was actually at the hall one day when the tones went off and since dispatch didn't arrive, I was roped into it since all else went out on call.....what an experience! Never operated a radio in my life.....but common sense got me through it. After that I thought of joining just for that purpose!! We to haven't made it to Sturgis.....maybe one day!! Enjoy the freedom!!!

Jsmith13,

You really should consider the memoirs idea. :) What a great legacy to leave behind especially with so much history in your family. You could really tie out your love for all things Irish too. <grin> Hey, it'll give you an excuse to go to Ireland. Jeez, who needs an excuse. LOL!!!

Thanks. I am truly enjoying the freedom. I had a motorcycle for years when I was younger, but sold it when the kids came along. But there's truly nothing like a Harley. Common sense is a big part of the job, unfortunately, not too many people have it. I think it comes with age. I put myself in some situations years ago that I would never even consider now. At work and at play!! If you do join the team, it is an experience that you will never forget. You don't hear too many thankyou's, but the gratification of saving a life, or someone's home is one that will always be there. A few years back we went on a fire in a three story rowhouse and wound up rescuing six children under the age of five. Five of them were in cardiac arrest and we brought them all back and they are alive and well, I guess, today. And later that year I delivered a baby. Messy, but still worth the experience!! Enjoy your bike!!

Hey chaps, wasn't this supposed to be the History and Cultural thread...
Deb, great what you started here but I think it's gone all fillagushimushi or what ever it was called...

No offence meant to anyone, the different threads for different topics is appealing...
