Hello,
I was at a late-night afterhours music session recently. I thought I heard one of the participants make a reference to the occasion that described the activity. I couldn't make out exactly what was said, but he was trying to convey something about the music being, "not for the audience", "for the musicians", "for ourselves" "it's our own" etc.
Are you aware of a phrase that conveys this idea?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Tom

Doesn't ring any bells.
