I am "redoing" my kitchen by decorating it with family heirlooms from Ireland along with photos;etc. I have wall space above my kitchen cabinets that I would like to write an Irish saying, proverb or something of the sort. (I can fit approximately 270 letters that are 2 inches by two inches) Does anyone have any ideas with the translation(s) on what I might be able to write? (The kitchen has a huge fireplace in it, brick floors, very rustic.) Thank you, Thank you!

Hi tera,

if you go to http://www.daltai.com and look at the provers here you should find a few which might tickle your fancy.

Fáilte Tera,
It might not be what you're looking for...
How about a beautiful piece of poetry that encapsulates
the great spirit and pathos of Ireland's psyche.

Mise Éire
Sine mé ná an Chailleach Bhéarra
Mór mo ghlóir
Mé a rug Cú Chulainn cróga
Mór mo náire
Mo chlann féin a dhíol a máthair
Mise Éire
Uaigní mé ná an Chailleach Bhéarra

Patrick Pearse (Pádraig Mac Piarais)
I am Ireland
I am older than the Old Woman of Beare
Great my glory
I that bore Cuchulainn the valiant
Great my shame
My own children that sold their mother
I am Ireland
I am lonelier than the Old Woman of Beare

Good luck with the decorating
Slán
Sam

Isn't that a beautiful poem? I actually have an original piece of artwork with that poem already framed and hanging! Thank you, though....you have great taste!
