I think that irish should be here used more,... but there must be also translation because, I think most of us are holy beginners. Don't you thik??

Why did you post a reply to a thread that hasn't seen any action since April?

If you want to know what we think, why not read the rest of the thread? Most of the forum regulars have weighed in on this issue already, back in April, and I very much doubt anyone's had a change of heart about it since then.

As for me:
When I'm giving or discussing a translation, I try to keep it to English as much as I can, to avoid confusing the translation requestor. When we're just chatting, though, I like to practice my Irish -- both writing and reading it.

If anybody ever wants to know what I've said in Irish, all they have to do is ask and I'll translate it for them. I'm not trying to be mysterious or showoffy about it... just practicing the language that's my reason for being here.

One thing I don't think most people realise, is that even if you're fluent in both languages, translating from one to the other isn't completely effortless! Native speakers of Irish (and English), when asked for a translation of something they have just said, often hesitate slightly while they grasp for words.

I'm now pretty sure that even if I became fluent, translating would still feel like work... and it would be tiring to feel obliged to provide a translation of everything I write. Sin mo thuarimse.
