Does anybody know how Caim is pronounced? We are using this prayer at our wedding & I want to make sure the priest says it correctly. Thanks!

Which prayer is that?

More context is probably needed here, to help us give you the right pronunciation.

I know cam = "bent", or cáim = "flaw" -- they're pronounced differently, though, so would need the translation to know which one you are using.

I've never heard of that word before, or any type of prayer associated with it. As a prefix "caim-" can mean "crooked" or "bent."

"Cáim" with a sineadh fada over the "a" means "fault" or "blemish."

Where did you find this "Caim Prayer?" Can you post the words?

I have it that "caim" is the genitive of "cam," which means a loop, twist, bend in the road, spin, swindle, or betrayal.

I'm with you, though, Oisín -- I still don't know of any prayers involving the word...

I found something called a "Caim Prayer" here:

Caim
The Celtic Christians had a practice called the 'caim', in which they drew around them a circle.... this was a symbol of the encircling love of God.

A Caim Prayer

My protection be
Encircling me
You are around
My life, my home
Encircling me
O Sacred Three

That still doesn't help us as to how to pronounce "caim," since it doesn't appear to be a real word.

'course it's a real word!
It's just in another language: "Celtic," instead of Irish...

I've never heard of it either. You won't find it in any dictionary of Modern Irish.
