It's Fianna Fáil, so it can sound like "foil" to the untrained ear.

ALWAYS get a second opinion on anything I, or anyone else, attempt to translate or transliterate.
I speak Connacht Irish, so some things I write, translate, or transliterate may be non-standard.

Darn! The one time I miss Jeopardy!

So tell me...did he get "Fianna" right (more or less), or did he pronounce it "fee-ANN-uh"?

Fianna Fáil is a political party in Éire started, I believe by Eamonn DeVelera. It means Soldiers of Destiny.
