I'm confused. Do you want to know how to say "hello"? Or do you want to know how to say "say 'hello' to your family"?

"Policeman" is "garda": GARD-uh

the informal way of saying "hello" in Ireland is to directly start by asking how someone is

Cén chaoi bhfuil tú / sibh

(sibh for a group)

Or Conas tá tú??

Yes, the police in Ireland are the Gardaí, GARRdee, one of 'em would be a Garda. But when have you ever seen just one cop??

Just a note:

A "Garda" is a member of An Garda Síochána, the Irish national police force.

An ordinary policeman anywhere else in the world is a poilín, plural poilíní

Believe it or not you often see one cop over here! They are trying to tighten up on it a bit though because in all honesty what good is one cop??!! But it's only now that you're seeing them regularly in twos and threes.

I got a PM from Mike, and what he's looking for is "Say 'hello' to your family" (as one might say in a letter "Have a great day, and please say 'hi' to Marge and the kids").
