My friend studied in Dublin last semester and learned a lot of irish and gaelic terms (and has wonderfully driven me nuts with them because i know none of them!). Usually, i can find the term on the internet, but she left me a message that said "Mu-hi can wait. I'm sleeping." I cannot for the life of me find out what "mu-hi" means???? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hahaha - what was she replying to, ay? Well, I left an away message on AIM that said "Kiss me, I'm Irish." She replied to that with "pog mo thon" (Kiss my arse!) where then I looked up a suitable response and found "Is docha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann" ("I guess a ride is out of the question," a rather rude way of refering to having sex, I am told) - Yes, we have a friendship where I can be rude to her and say things like that and get away with it! Then, her response was "Mu-hi can wait. I'm sleeping." Does that help in deciphering what it is that she meant?

By the way, thank you for the quick responses! I have a feeling that I am going to come running here a LOT trying to translate her newfound treasure of words!

I don't know, My money is on the "mu" supposing to be "mo" but I can't find anything that even resembles "hi" in the dictionary.

Yeah, cant work out what it's supposed to be either! I'd go for it meaning mo as well but cant even work out something that sounds like hi.

Is dócha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann means I dont suppose there's any chance in it. It doesnt actually refer to sex unless sex was the subject of conversation. Well, I could be wrong but I've never heard it before. Does anyone else know whether that sayin always has sexual connotations?

I'm guessing it's marcaigh, which means "ride", but I don't know if it's used in that context.

It is, actually, from what I'm told. Good guess...that could well be it.

I'm bettin' that the grammar's a bit off and what she meant was, "M'aghaidh". My face.
And I have seen, "Is docha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann". She's correct as to its meaning.
