The current Scottish Gaelic for "penguin" is "ceann-fionn" (= "white-head"), corresponding to the reading of "penguin" as per Welsh, ie from "pen" (= "head") & "gwyn" (="white"). The Oxford & Chambers dictionaries claim the origin of the word "penguin" is "unknown" & "disputed" respectively, but both add that it was originally applied to the "auk". So there yar! MY only problem with this is that, in my admittedly limited experience of penguins, they do not seem to HAVE white heads.
