I bet if you lasses were in control, the heroes would have been women, too - excuse me, heroines . . .

:) David

That's wierd, I'm starting to wonder about our handy-dandy little dictionary!! I looked up "buttercup" and it gives me "cam", but when I flip back to look up cam in the Irish section I get your definition...hmm :gruebel: Does it do that in yours??

Nah, there wouldn't be any heroines, just horses, cute little puppies, fluffy putty cats, and little wooly lambs saving the day!! :schaf: :lach:

I get the same thing. I think for "buttercup" it's saying cam an ime, specifying that "cam" is a masculine noun (ime is the genitive of butter). I suspect that may be a misprint . . . can anyone tell us what the noun "cam" really means?

I've found this:

In Celtic mythology, Embarr ("imagination") was Niamh's horse. He could run across sea and land without touching the ground or water.

Imagination- I like that! It looks like "Embarr" may be the winner.

And, uh, oisin718, interesting new avatar... any significance?

I think I'm going with Embarr. Thanks to everyone for your help (well ok, how would I say Embarr the White Horse?)

I found this page about mythical Celtic Horses:

As far as I know, Cu Chulainn had even two horses that are known by name, however, I only remember the Liath Macha (Grey of the Macha), which is said to have been his favourite.

http://members.shaw.ca/unicornhaven/CelticHorses.html says that Cu Chulainn's other horse was named "The Black of Sainglend."

Dubh Sainglend?
