I don't much care how "keen" you are on the phrase I am simply looking for a translation, and if you too want to keep arguing over who is more literal can you just e-mail each other and stop wasting my fuckng time ? Thanks :P

Wow. Someone's cranky tonight. Stop wasting your **** time? That's nice.

I didn't think he was commenting on the sentiment, but regardless. No one HAD to do this for you. It's a VOLUNTARY site. You should be grateful that they wasted THEIR time to help you!

I agree...I think he was just commenting on the difficulty of translating very English idioms, not on his opinion of the sentiment. Sometimes the simpler the translation SEEMS in English, the more challenging it is in Irish.

FWIW, Nomad, the best translations often come from people bouncing their ideas off one another. That's part of the translation process...not a waste of anybody's time.
