I loved my Catholic school uniform...didn't have to worry about what to put on in the morning!

Well, there is a family legend about what happened the first time my mother had dinner with my dad's family. The large table, with grandma, her parents, her three brothers, her three kids (including Dad), her husband, her step-son (who Mom was dating at the time), and the fairly proper young woman would would be my mother, was fairly quiet, until Uncle Joe said, "Please pass the rolls."

It could have been worse. He could have asked for gravy. :lach:

I'm all for school uniforms. I don't buy this crap about "freedom of self-expression."

I felt very grown up and dapper putting on a jacket and tie every morning at Most Holy Rosary.

Well i like it better not having to wear a uniform... I like waking up putting on my jeans, teeshirt and hoodie. I dont need to look like the girl next to me. And definitly not in a skirt.

Screw conformity.

Well, the thing is, all teenagers pretty much DO wear a uniform. The clothes are all the same...it's just colors, brands and jewelry that change. I bet just about every girl in your school gets up in the morning and puts on pretty much the same thing.

I'm a big fan of uniforms, myself. They're a great equalizer...you can't tell the poor kids from the rich kids or the "cool" kids from the geeks just by looking at how they dress. And wearing a uniform certainly does NOT cramp "self-expression"...unless the wearer is unable to read, write, draw or speak!

Well, I'd have to disagree with what you say about all the girls looking the same... I like making my own clothes and design them. I know a lot of people who do that too. And not everybody buys from the same stores or the same styles. I see a whole variety around the school. Most are just being comfortable in what they wear and who they are. I find it is a cramp on self expression. In school, you're not able to expess yourself very much at all. Reading, writing, drawing speaking.... those are things you learn and get marked on according to the teacher. You read what they want you to read. You write what they want you to write. Unless having a debate you're not able to speak your mind, and unless in art you cannot draw what you want. Even in art you can't. You draw what the teacher puts in front of you. Clothing shouldnt be made a big deal about in schools because it's not hurting anybody. I dont see why we should be forced to have uniforms. I know I would rather wear my jersey Ireland pants than some skanky skirt id never wear otherwise. It's not a big deal. Now days, it's not about the geeks and cool kids. Most people just get along. My 'jock' football friends are friends with my computer 'nerd' friends. My 'prep' friends are friends with my 'skid' or 'skater' friends. Even if we had uniforms, it would go past clothing. People would find something else to make fun of. People dont make fun of you cause of clothes. If you changed your clothes, they still would feel the need to pick on you, just because of who you are and who they think they need to be.

Well for me, I would not like uniforms, but it is an on going debate. All I know is that if my school had them, I'd be going to the school next to it.
