Again, are you sure of this? Broad mh is always a /w/ sound...
Not when there is an 'i' before it.

I think here it's a matter of the final sound falling out of the rule...a definately broad or slender consonant would be flanked or followed by broad or slender vowels:
broad mh: ríomhaire slender mh: uimhir Is é Christian Stoehr mo chroí

Final broad "mh" and "bh" are generally sounded as /v/ in monosylabbles, and often likewise in longer words.
NEE-uv is the only way I have heard that name pronounced. You must be careful to enunciate that "EE-uh" sound. To be fair, I have heard "riamh" pronounced "REE-oo," though. |
