Why can't "Caoimheall" be used for "Camille?" We don't know what "Camille" originally meant, and if it had gone from Latin into Irish it probably would have come out as *Caimheall, so it's not that different. It's no different from using "Dónal" for "Daniel."

Camille = unknown meaning
Caoimheall = beautiful, fair

Daniel = God is my judge
Dónal = world-ruler

I don't think he was saying that it couldn't be. It was just kind of a fun coincidence that namenerds also suggests it as a "translation" of "Amanda/Amy." That's why I said that "Camille" should go with "Caoimheall" and "Amy" with "Caoimhóg" (another suggestion namenerds gave for "Amanda").

i'm Amy Christine

If i have a daughter, i'm going to name her something interesting that people will actually remember. i was thinking something like helle
(hell-uh), or possibly something in irish...
what do you think? :wink:

I have always been partial to the name Nuala. It has a certain ring to it don't ya think?

I am not even going to try and scrutinise my name... it is just too apparent what it means and where its roots lay...
