From what I can gather from Googling and looking in a few reference books - It appears to run as follows

Mac Maghnais - old form

Mac Maghnusa - later form

Mac Manusa - modern rendering after the reform of spelling

Take your pick.

I'm just another american looking for his roots!
Can't seem to find a definite origin, although my grand father has mentioned the name Thomas Bellew McManus before, I belive someone mentioned that in a earlier post.

Tomás Beilliú Mac Maghnais/Maghnusa
Thomas Bellew McManus (old/middle)

This would probably get you some good results (seeing as you're going for roots, the name'd probably be in an older form.)

~Adam.
I am a learner. Wait for further input.

Not from memory, (although I did know that at one stage, cos I almost had a brother-in-law from Fermanagh, called McManus who explained it all to me), just good old www.google.ie, the best reference "book" you'll ever find
