Irish Translation Forum

Hey, I'm wondering if someone could help me out with the pronunciation (for a native American English speaker with no knowledge of Gaelic) of "sessam" the old Irish word for standing by as in defending (at least that's the translation I found, correct me if I'm wrong). I tried to piece it out from an online guide as either ses-sham or shesh-sam, but I have a feeling this is wrong.

Pronounced Shaw/suhm

chosaint = defend or protect

Pronounced (with a gutteral H): Haw/sint or (c)Haw/sint

No idea about Old Irish pronunciation.
I would pronounce the modern word seasamh as "SHA-suv". Would vary depending on the dialect.
