I've seen a fair amount of posts around here involving "sciobtha" but they all seem to refer to the "speedy" meaning of the word. Recently I came across someone who used it as, more or less, the English word "swiped". I think the context was sort of "Taken from this website; [URL]" as in "Sciobtha as an suíomh seo; [URL]".
I see no reason this shouldn't be right, the guy is a really competent Gaeilgeoir and it makes sense to me, but wanted to see what the concensus on here was as I can't find a translation to that effect?

Dineen gives sciob´ta as snapped, snatched, quick, sudden, uncivil in reply so what you have seems right. The "t" should have an accent over it to give it the "th" sound but my keyboard won't do it.

They are afraid of competition on this site. That's why they block URL's.

I agree you can use the word for "snatched" as well as "fast".
Sciob sé an leabhar uaim. Bhí sé sciobtha uaim.
He snatched the book out of my hands.
