Hi! I'm looking for a literal Gaelic translation to "Be Thou My Vision", I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web, though I have found a Gaelic singer performing the Gaelic lyrics of it. It is for a tattoo, of course, in particular, the last line to the first verse. In modern Irish it reads "Im chodladh no im dhúiseacht, líon mé le do ghrá." In Old Irish it reads "rop tú ad-chëar im chotlud caidche." In the American hymn version, it says "Both waking and sleeping, thy presence my light," but I know the literal translation is something like "In my awakening, fill me with your love/light." (which I like better) If you have the whole hymn translated in Gaelic somewhere, that would be superb and awesome to have it, but don't feel obligated to go out of your way, since I'm looking for that particular line. Background on me, I'm a 2nd-generation Irish-American, both of my parents are Irish, my mother from the Gaelic clan O Teangana, so my heritage is really close to me. My grandparents knew Gaelic, but they are since gone. Thank you so much! :D

The line you referred to in modern Irish means

In my sleepinng or in my awakening, fill me with your love

And a quick search for rop tú ad-chëar in Google brought this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Thou_My_Vision

and

http://www.cngaeilge.com/poem.htm

although on that last site you can also (only) see the victory of design over practicality. :lach:
However there are some notations by Dennis King a respected Old Irish scholar.
