Not being able to speak Irish myself, I came on this forum and asked very nicely if someone could help me out. I just needed a translation of the speech.. I'm sure you enjoy all these little victories, O King Of The Irish Language Forums. No wonder the language is dying with such small-minded and bitchy people operating as it's stewards. It's a shame.
I explained to you why I thought it was a waste of time translating this. There is a good reason why so little Shakespeare has been translated into Irish.
What you have there is basically very bad Irish, it's worse than useless, in fact a good case could be made for it not being Irish at all. Using Google to translate anything into Irish is a non-starter, it's a machine translator that is not capable of handling basic Irish grammar let alone anything as complicated as this.
You say yourself you don't speak Irish, so why do you want this in Irish? What is your goal?
Do you really think that anyone can just translate poetry from one language to another in a matter of minutes or hours? On someone else's whim?
I would find it a great victory to be able to translate this, in fact I have attempted it a number of times, but I have never been able to get anything that was even close to the majesty of the original.
To translate this soliloquoy literally or even as doggerel would do neither it nor the Irish language justice.
As for your sense of humour..that undiscover'd country from whose bourn no laughter returns, puzzles the joke...but hush! The light through yonder window breaks and I must away.
