To be reborn we first must burn

The phrases would sound more natural in Irish with the clauses reversed:

Tá ar na seaduine bás a fháil
The old [people] must die
chun a bheith athbheirthe
in order to be reborn

Tá orainn dó ar dtús
We must burn first
chun a bheith athbheirthe
in order to be reborn
Please Note: I'm not a fluent speaker, so be sure to wait for comments or corrections from others.

maybe, thinking of the inking involved you could abbrv it to -

tagann bás roimh athbhreith

death precedes rebirth

ní mór don bhás teacht roimh athbhreith

death must precede rebirth

(No mention of the ould ones though in mine or glik's)
