I think the irish idiom for that expression, having the same conotation is siúl go ciúin literally walk quietly.

Siúil go ciúin is correct for walk softly. kenailan used the verbal noun in stead of the imperative. Siúil go bog is good as well, although it was the phrase with ciúin that sprang first to my mind.

I misread your ciúin as clúin and mistyped my word. The last line of the old song is ' Siúl go socair agus siúl go ciúin", not so far-fetched as you think.
