I am new to the forum and looking for some assistance. I am thinking of getting a tattoo to honor my father who passed away. I am thinking of a celtic cross with the Irish/Gaelic word for father, athair, if that is correct and the dates he was born and passed away incorporated into the tattoo. Thank you for your assistance in advanced.

Condolences on your loss.
Yes, father is athair.

If you want the dates in Irish, you'll need to say what they are.
I'm still a learner, so be sure to get input from others, especially for tattoos.

Thank you, if I were just to use athair, it would be a proper use. I am just trying to be 100% sure when I do get the tattoo.

Yes, if you are using the word by itself, it is athair (which can also be capitalized, if you want). If it is used in a sentence, there could be changes to the spelling and pronunciaiton in some contexts.
