I have asked for and received two completely different pronunciations from two different native Irishmen for the words - 'beannacht' and 'bronntanas', so I am more at a loss than ever. May I please have the correct English pronunciations for these two? Thanks so much.

Besides the fact that using English to describe Irish sounds is an imprecise business at best, there are three major dialects, so it is not surprising that you might get different answers from different people.

beannacht
BAN-ukht
/b´æ:Nəxt/

bronntanas
BRON-tuh-nuss
/broNtəNəs/

In Connacht, the first syllable of bronntanas has a tendency to sound like BROON /bru:N/ more than BRON.

Thank you so very much for both your help in pronunciation and the explanation, as well. I should certainly have allowed for the different accents of different locals, just as we have here in the USA. Much thanks.
