Hey all,

Now, I quite like Elvis myself, but I heard Dáithí Ó Sé saying this, and I wondered about the use of mé féin:

Do you think what he's getting at is something like I myself am not a big Elvis fan? Or is it more an example of how in Irish, you can have a reflexive pronoun that doesn't necessarily have a reflexive meaning? For example, in Chonaic Eoghan agus mé féin an clár, mé féin isn't actually reflexive, it's just the way you say I in this kind of construction.

I know it's probably a minor detail, but I'm doing a very detailed study of Irish grammar the moment, so I just wanted to know how other people would interpret this!

My guess is he was using it in the first sense. I'm assuming this is from "Dáithí ar Route 61," yes?

Exactly! I was disappointed when it came to an end, I was getting hooked!

I loved "Dáithí ar Route 66." I had a harder time getting into "Route 61," probably because it's not a style of music I'm into.

It is fun to see some of the more...er...distinctive aspects of one's culture through the eyes (and the language) of someone from a different culture! I keep wondering if we can talk him into doing "Dáithí ar Route 1: Malibu go Astoria"
