Hi,

I am getting married in October and want to have a prayer of the faithful said in Irish. Can someone help me translate this into Irish please? I am a few years out of school and know I will get it wrong!

For those who married yesterday,
For the new couple, married today,
For those who will marry tomorrow,
That they may have a long life,
Filled with love, happiness and friends,
and a new day every day.

Guímis ar son na ndaoine a phós inné,
Ar son na lánúine nuaphósta atá anseo inniu,
Ar son na ndaoine a phósfaidh amárach:
Saol fada sona* acu uilig,
Lán de ghrá agus de chairde,
Agus lá úrnua acu chuile lá beo.

*I moved the happiness bit to this line (just felt it ran better) but it could be changed easily to the subsequent line if the mirroring the positioning of the English is very important.

I don't think she'll mind the slight re-ordering of the words. But isn't saol feminine? If so, would it be saol fhada shona?

"Saol" is masculine.

The translation looks good but I would suggest this for the first 2 lines

I was assuming that the "Thanks so much" was an expression of appreciation from the requester other than part of the request?

Like you, I originally had "Orthu siúd a phós inne" for the first line (and a similar format for the next 2) but, on re-reading, got the idea (not quite sure why) that using "na (n)daoine..." might be clearer or "easier" to any listeners whose Irish was a bit rusty (as is the case with the requester him/herself). I might well have been over-thinking it though.

Its not terribly clear, its a bit strange to thank people for marrying. Then again they might have coughed up a few bob for the honour.

I think the "thanks so much" is from Gaeilgeoir...not part of the prayer.

Actually no, the 'thanks so much' (along with everything else below that dotted line I made in my OP) is from the woman requesting the translation. I'm not the one getting married! But I think she was thanking me for doing what I could to help get it translated, not including it in the prayer.
